Nobel Prizes 2013 Winners List


Nobel Prize in Physics:

Peter Higgs of Britain and Francois Englert of Belgium
"for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider"



Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine:

The prize was shared by Americans James E. Rothman of Yale and Randy W. Schekman of the University of California, Berkeley and German-American Dr. Thomas C. Sudhof of the Stanford University School of Medicine. "for their discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells".

Nobel Prize in Chemistry:

Martin Karplus of the University of Strasbourg, France and Michael Levitt of the Stanford University School of Medicine, and Arieh Warshel of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
"for the development of multiscale models for complex chemical systems".

Nobel Prize in Literature:

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2013 was awarded to Canada's Alice Munro "master of the contemporary short story".

Nobel Peace Prize:
"Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons(OPCW)" wins the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize. "for its extensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons".

Nobel Prize in Economics:

Eugene F. Fama, Robert J. Shiller and Lars Peter Hansen (All Americans) "for their empirical analysis of asset prices"
